James Dalrymple

James is a European Patent Attorney and Chartered Patent Attorney, based in our Dublin office. He brings international experience, having trained at a leading UK firm of patent and trade mark attorneys and worked at a large intellectual property firm in Australia before joining MacLachlan IP in 2025.

James holds a degree in Physics with Astrophysics from the University of Manchester. His technical expertise spans a broad range of physics-related sectors, including mechanical engineering, medical devices, automotive technology, agriculture and marine technology, construction equipment, consumer electronics, and sporting equipment.

James works closely with a diverse range of clients. He enjoys working with start-ups and individual inventors to guide them through the patent process, and collaborating with large international and multinational companies to help manage and develop their intellectual property portfolios. His practice covers all aspects of patent protection, from drafting and prosecuting applications to providing opinions on infringement, validity, and freedom to operate.

James is a member of the Chartered Institute of Patent Attorneys (CIPA).
